In 2023, MHA’s SGSecure Programme Office worked with HTX’s Digital Services Programme Management Centre to refresh the SGSecure app in order to keep pace with changing security requirements and to make it more attractive and intuitive for users.

On your evening jog, you see a group of people loitering suspiciously outside the perimeter of a secured area. You do not want to make a voice call to ‘999’ as it might attract their attention. What can you do?
If you have the SGSecure mobile app [iOS, Android], you can report the situation to the authorities. You can even include photos and videos of the suspicious activity so that the authorities can better understand what is going on.
The SGSecure app is a key part of the SGSecure movement. The app, which was launched in 2016, allows members of the public to report suspicious activities and receive emergency related broadcasts. Users who want to do more to help in responding to incidents or emergencies may also register as SGSecure Responders through the app.
SGSecure Responders will also be alerted to cardiac arrest and minor fire cases in their vicinities and will also be shown where the nearest automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to treat cardiac arrest cases can be found.

Should users find themselves requiring emergency assistance but are unable to call ‘999’, they can notify the Police through the app’s Personal SOS feature. Pressing the large red SOS button on the screen will allow users to contact the Police through their SMS 71999 service and will also allow the Police to access the users’ approximate location. This SMS can also be sent to three emergency contacts whom users can register in the app.
In 2023, MHA’s SGSecure Programme Office (SSPO) worked with HTX’s Digital Services Programme Management Centre (DSPMC) to refresh the SGSecure app in order to keep pace with changing security requirements and facilitate future app enhancements, and to make it more attractive and intuitive for users. The refreshed app was released on 25 September 2023.
What are some of the updates in the refreshed app?
When reporting suspicious cases in the original app, the location of cases was limited to the location provided by the GPS coordinates. To better assist the Police, the refreshed app now allows users to input their contact details as well as more specific location information such as the floor and unit numbers.

The app’s user interface (UI) has also been refreshed by taking into consideration industry best practices and modern app design concepts.
For example, the redesigned UI focuses on the app’s core crisis and emergency functions by shifting non-core features to a side menu. App alerts also feature improved image integration to better accommodate different phone dimensions.
The refreshed SGSecure app was recently showcased at the Milipol Asia-Pacific – TechX Summit exhibition held at the Marina Bay Sands convention centre from 3-5 April 2024.
