It was really heartening when I came to know that actual lives were saved through myResponder. The app has grown from strength to strength and it has attracted more than 86,000 Community First Responders to date.
Initially developed to improve the survival rate of Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA) cases, the app helps SCDF to alert members of the public to nearby medical cases even before SCDF arrives. The app also allows SCDF to alert the public to nearby fire cases so that minor fires can be mitigated within the first few critical minutes.

Inspired to use his skills to further HTD capabilities, Teck Huat found himself in like-minded company at HTX where the agency’s mission resonated with him.
“I find it meaningful to use my skills to develop ICT systems that can be deployed across HTDs and HTX allows me to do just that,” he highlighted.
In his current role, Teck Huat assists in devising technical solutions for the Enterprise Systems team under HTX’s Joint Capabilities Project Management Centre (JCPMC). The centre sets the direction for joint ICT infrastructure and capabilities across Home Team Departments (HTDs) and ensures smooth integration of operations and technology.
Apart from this, Teck Huat is also looking at new growth areas such as the adoption of DevSecOps practices to enable rapid and secure application delivery. This is a set of practices that combines software development and IT operations to shorten the time taken to develop systems without compromising software quality.

“HTX provides its officers with the opportunity to be at the forefront of technology and encourages engineers to acquire new skillsets and competencies. Management is also supportive and have fostered an innovative culture where there is space and trust to test new ideas,” he opined.
It’s also not just all about work and no play. In November, Teck Huat and his team participated in HTX’s 10,000 steps walk from its former office location at New Phoenix Park to its new home at MediaCorp Campus at 1 Stars Avenue.
“We walked more than 15,000 steps and took more than two hours to reach the new office. It was tiring but the spirits were high within our group as there was plenty of laughter, encouragement and sightseeing along the way,” he recounted.
“As the African proverb goes, ‘If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together’. At HTX, we are treated as part of the family even though people come from various organisations whether it’s through secondments, contracts or new hires, etc. This is a place where everyone can achieve great things and go far together,” he added.
